When the CruiseControl system is idle or disabled, the stepper motor is disengaged and the cruisecontrol cable is free to move in accordance with motion of the accelerator cable.
In most cases, cruisecontrol stops working because of a blown fuse, faulty brake light, or bad brake switch. However, a check engine light or an engine-related issue could prevent your cruisecontrol from working.
The most common reasons a Chevrolet Silverado 1500 cruisecontrol isn’t working are failed control module, sensor or switch issues, or throttle actuation problems.
In my troubleshooting of my system, I found a post somewhere saying that 90% of failures are in the cruise switch itself. I bought a new one for $24 shipped from ebay. Sure enough, as soon as I pulled the switch from the steering column, I could see the frayed wires. I'd check that first.
This is the first thing I check if the cruisecontrol is not coming on. Follow me on Instagram and twitter for updates and more content @MrOffAndOn...more
